Despite fairly inclement weather we managed to get the ring out to the platform this week, and were happy with the relative ease of getting the thing on its 7′ rig oriented. By the time the sun came out on Friday afternoon we also had raised the first two rafters into their place. This week, with a forecast of sunny days, we hope to create the whole rafter kit. Once that’s done we can start building up the walls!

the photo on the top brought to my mind images of druids erecting stonehenge (partly due to the hooded sweatshirt). then i thought of medieval craftsmen erecting notre dame. it’s nice to think of the chapel project as a continuation of a historic/universal chapel project.

Ben, yes, I like that. Of course there are all sorts of buildings being built or transformed for uses of worship/contemplation all the time, all over the place — some of them more or less beautiful than others, and many of them, unfortunately, not built with a spirit or vision coherent with the purpose. The stuff we use, and the spirit behind our use of this stuff, all need to be recognized as playing a significant part in the construction of a chapel — and similarly, of course, anything we create. But it seems as though this is recognized/achieved, historically, more often and more profoundly in those “religious” buildings that are built especially for the purpose of bridging Stuff with Spirit…
I’m sure Phil will enjoy being identified as a Druid. At least it might cheer him up in all this rain…!
